So How Many Times is Fear Not Actually in the Bible?

Fear not - original collage

I was so intrigued when I saw this photo BELOW (and similar ones) going around facebook. I thought, “Wow! How awesome is that!”

After a few months of thinking about this from time to time, I had a great idea to do a printable using all 365 scripture references that deal with “fear not”. I went to my concordance to get the scripture references, and do you know what I found?

  • The phrase in the intended context is only used 80+ times
  • The phrase “fear not” in used in other contexts, but you wouldn’t want them to apply to you
  • Other word pairings that would be equal to “fear not” (“do not be afraid”, “do not fear”, “be not afraid”) is used 30+ times

While it’s a great idea to think that God comforted us with “Fear not” 365 times, it’s simply just not true.

However, hopefully we are at that point in our Christian walk that we don’t need to hear God say something 365 times. Once should be enough.

But I was not deterred. I pressed on with my printable. (Two color selections)

Each scripture reference is in Biblical order, and the red scriptures are red-letter KJV scriptures. All scriptures are KJV.

  1. Thanks for blogging about this. I found the photo at Pinterest and thought it was great statistic too at first. I tried to google it and couldn’t find anything to confirm it. This is a great point: “However, hopefully we are at that point in our Christian walk that we don’t need to hear God say something 365 times. Once should be enough.” God bless.

  4. This morning I was thinking of writing things on fear. I remembered I have heard people say there are 365 ‘fear nots’ in the Bible but had never found this out myself. Although I would have not used the phrase with an absolute certainty, I’m glad there’s been some clarification on it. Thanks
This would help with my studies.

  5. I heard Joseph Prince preaching the other day and he said Fear Not is in the bible 365 times. Understand it wasn’t his text but he just mentioned it. I wanted to check not because I thought he was wrong or misleading because I think he is a great man of God that God is raising up to bring us into glory. If he was preaching on this subject I think he would of probably explained it in a similar way and it’s probably what he meant, I hope. Thank you for the tremendous research you did to bring this to Gods people. God Bless your ministry.
